Play the Game

Don’t miss the fun! To play Nature Challenge, all you need is a minimum two-member team (one adult 18 years or older and one child under 18) and the desire to have a great time, all while discovering the beauty and unlimited activities of Texas' State Parks, Forests, Historic Sites and Recreation Areas.

Nature Challenge is a eight-week contest that will have you decoding clues, discovering parks, forests, historic sites and recreation areas across the region and participating in fun activities and challenges — all for a chance to win cool prizes.

The game kicks off on Sunday, June 14 at Discovery Green. The event runs from noon to 4:00 p.m. Teams can arrive at any point within this timeframe to enjoy the variety of activities planned for the day. The first 200 families will receive a scrapbook to include the activities they complete throughout the summer. The participating sites will have a mission for each team to accomplish upon arriving to their parks. The missions, once completed, need to be kept in a scrapbook (binder) until the closing ceremony where they will be collected and reviewed by our secret panel of judges.

The missions are "self-guided", meaning families may complete the designated activities anytime before August 8th. There will be various locations you must visit to complete these activities. To earn points for "self-guided" parks, teams must complete the designated activity and present the required proof-of-visit by last event (August 8th).

There will also be one bonus activity: The Nature Challenge Photography Contest. Teams are encouraged to visit each site and enjoy the tranquility of the sites while exploring your artistic side. Objectives and rules fo the photography contest are available on the Missions page.

Complete tasks at all of the parks and your team will be deemed semi-finalists, eligible for a chance to win one of three grand prizes. Semi-finalists will be required to be present at the final event on August 8, 2009 and submit their binders to the judges.
